2 Peter 3:18 (KJV) “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”
After Yomi understood that grace must be found, he became eager to discover how believers grow in grace. He had always assumed that grace was a fixed quantity that God distributed to each believer at salvation. However, as he studied the Scriptures, he discovered that while every believer receives grace, grace can also increase.
This realization changed the way he approached his walk with God.
Yomi noticed that the believers who seemed strongest in faith, most fruitful in service, and most consistent in their Christian walk were usually those who had invested years in knowing the Lord. They were not necessarily more talented than others. They had simply given themselves to fellowship with God through His Word, prayer, obedience, and dependence on the Holy Spirit.
He began to understand why Peter instructed believers to grow in grace and in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. The two are closely connected. As our knowledge of the Lord increases, grace is multiplied in our lives (see 2 Peter 1:2).
Many believers desire greater victory, greater wisdom, and greater effectiveness in the kingdom of God, yet they neglect the very means through which grace grows. Grace flourishes where there is a hunger for God. It increases in the life of the believer who consistently seeks the Lord and responds in obedience to His voice.
Just as a tree draws nourishment from the soil and gradually grows stronger, the believer draws strength from fellowship with God and grows in grace over time. This growth may not always be dramatic, but it is real. Day by day, the Holy Spirit transforms us, strengthens us, and equips us to walk in God’s purposes.
One of the signs of growing grace is that things which once seemed impossible become possible. Temptations that once dominated a person’s life begin to lose their power. Areas of weakness become areas of strength. The believer finds a greater capacity to obey God, love others, and endure trials with joy.
As you go into today, remember that God’s grace is not merely something you receive once; it is something in which you are called to grow. Commit yourself to knowing the Lord more deeply through His Word and through fellowship with His Spirit, and His grace will continue to abound in your life.
Prayer: Father, increase Your grace in my life. Give me a deeper knowledge of Your Son and help me grow stronger in faith, obedience, and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
